Creaky Friday is the second episode of the second season of Velma.
Premise[]
Creaky Friday is a tradition in Crystal Cove going back a century. Young people are randomly paired with each other and compete to see who can oil the most creaky doors in a day. Velma wants to rig the draw and be paired with Fred so they can investigate the new murder. Daphne is paired with Thorn's daughter, Amber, who is into mysticism and magic. However, more men are being murdered, and they all have one thing in common - their bodies have been emasculated.
Synopsis[]
Velma and the popular girls prepare for an annual tradition, Creaky Friday, in which students are paired with each other to oil the most creaky doors. Velma, believing it to be a pointless tradition, focuses on the investigation, intending to speak with Mr. S about the case. However, Donna and Linda announce to her class that Mr. S has gone missing, though they expressly forbid any students from joining the investigation. With Fred also focusing on the investigation, Velma requests to be paired with him so they can investigate together. However, the event organizers insist that the pairings be random as a crucial part of the sacred tradition.
Velma decides to rig the pairings so she would be paired with Fred, sneaking into the school at night and placing metal shavings in her and Fred's ping-pong ball to rig the selection. This plan works, and the two are paired together for the event, while Daphne is paired with Amber. That night, Velma and Fred begin investigating but find Mr. S' house taped off by police, implying his corpse was found at the crime scene. Fred decides to contribute to the case by showing Velma evidence from Cogburn's case file. The photo, a still image from the crime scene's surveillance footage, shows a suspect disguised as a phantom. She recognizes the costume as the one Norville used to scare her a few days ago.
Meanwhile, Norville speaks with Lola and the girls whose brains have been removed. Norville offers to build them a mobility system so they would be able to move on their own. However, he is confronted by Velma for being at the crime scene disguised as a ghost. Norville admits that, while he did not kill Cogburn, he snuck into the police station to steal Diya's journals from her case file, which would help him research the cause of his hallucinations. Working with Lola and the girls also helped him learn about the human brain. The girls, angry with being taken advantage of, leave.
While out oiling doors, Daphne and Amber discuss manifestation, as Amber believes she manifested herself pairing with Daphne. However, while cycling on the street, she is struck by a car and hospitalized, where she is unharmed but in a location with many creaky doors to oil. After oiling the doors, they are invited to the underground morgue with even more doors to oil. They stumble upon Cogburn and Mr. S' bodies awaiting autopsy, but discover, to their horror, that their penises have been removed by their killer. They give this information to Velma and Fred.
Velma and Fred then question Donna and Linda for sending the ghost picture to Fred. Linda admits that she sent the image to him as she believed in his spirituality. They reluctantly allow them to secretly join their investigation, but their conversation is eavesdropped on by Cogburn's brother, Merle. Afterwards, Fred abandons his religion after discovering he would have to pay tithes to the church. Meanwhile, Norville apologizes to Lola for taking advantage of her.
Later, Daphne and Amber are crowned the winners of Creaky Friday, a tradition which Velma still has little respect for. However, Merle, discovering Donna and Linda are outsourcing their investigations to teenagers, announces his discovery on television and starts his own campaign to replace Cogburn as sheriff. Also, Velma walks in on Diya having an affair with William, Fred's father; Diya would have heard Velma opening the door had that door not been oiled.
