Count Friederich Nefario was a robot lookalike of Fred Jones built and controlled by Warden Collins. He was also the leader of Misery Company.
Physical appearance[]
Nefario looked much like Fred, but with blue skin, dark blue hair and red eyes with yellow sclera. He wore a tattered and ripped Victorian era outfit. He also had his bowels sticking out of his chest and was missing his left foot.
Personality[]
Nefario was very menacing and would do anything to destroy Mystery Inc. He was also easily annoyed by his teammates when they accused each other of cheating at Go Fish. Despite this, he did have a polite side, as he apologized to a pair of mannequins who were wearing Scooby and Shaggy's costumes, unaware this was actually a trap.
Power and abilities[]
Like the rest of Misery Company, Nefario could levitate above the ground. He could also launch fireballs from his hands.
History[]
Nefario was built by Warden Collins along with the Misery Company so that Mystery Inc. could have a mystery after an entire year and that Fred wished he had an interesting mystery again, Warden Collins also laid a series of clues for Mystery Inc. to follow (writing "NEFARIO!" in the gang guest book in the Coolsville Halloween Fest and putting a book in the Coolsville Public Library titled "Life and Crimes of Friederich Nefario").
Nefario is first seen at Coolsville Halloween Fest, Mystery Inc. had set up a booth where people could write in a guest book if they had mysteries for the gang to solve, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo go to look for customers but they are distracted when they see a bucket of apples and they decide to eat, Shaggy and Scooby manage to catch several apples with their mouths quickly but then a green glow scares people and they run away, Shaggy and Scooby take out their heads out of the water and see Nefario emerge from the bucket, they get scared and run away, Shaggy and Scooby think they should tell Fred, Daphne and Velma, but then they think that if they tell them they saw a ghost they won't be able to trick or treat so they decide not to tell them anything.
Shaggy and Scooby return with the others but Scooby is unable to keep the secret and reveals that they saw a ghost, at first Fred thinks they are just trying to cheer them up but then Nefario appears and tells the gang "I'm here for you, Mystery Inc.", the gang gets scared but Fred is impressed since he thinks his wish was fulfilled, then Nefario throws a fireball at them which makes Fred react to the danger and the gang flees, Nefario destroys the stand and the Mystery Machine, so the gang hides.
The gang begins to plan what they should do and then they think that if Nefario comes after them on Halloween, the culprit could be Coco Diablo (since they caught her 1 year ago), the gang goes to Coolsville Penitentiary and they make a deal with Coco so that she can help them solve the mystery in exchange for her being able to get out of prison early for good behavior (which Warden Collins accepts without hesitation), Coco reunites with her cat, Esteban and the gang sets out to solve the mystery with the Mystery Machine (which barely works after Nefario's attack).
The gang takes Coco to the scene of the attack, Coco checks the scene and finds the log book and discovers that it has "NEFARIO!" written on it, which causes them to discover Nefario's name and proceed to investigate him, gang and Coco go to the Coolsville Public Library and in the Spooky Section, they find Nefario's book, Fred reads the book and they discover the story of Nefario.
In his castle, high in the Carpathian Mountains, Count Friederich Nefario gathered the members of Europe's high society to form a council with a sinister purpose, Nefario gathered everyone together as they were important to his plan, his dear friend Daisy (a vain and spoiled socialite who had everything, but it was never enough), Helga (a genius scientist who knew everything, except the difference between right and wrong) and Craggly and his trusted attack dog, Rudy (whose insatiable appetites often led them down the wrong path), one fateful Halloween night, Nefario opened a ancient tome, but then Mystery Inc. sensed that there was something familiar with that group (which was that they were like the gang: with Nefario as Fred, Daisy as Daphne, Helga as Velma, Craggly as Shaggy and Rudy as Scooby), Fred continues reading the story and it's revealed that Nefario opened the ancient tome and read the sacred text, inviting them to join a tempting fraternity called Misery Company, at the initiation, they would obtain eternal life, which would allow them to live longer than several of their descendants, but then Shaggy becomes impatient since he wants to trick or treat, so he advances the story, according to legend Misery Company would have eternal life, but in exchange they would have to keep the balance between good and evil in the world, if there was too much good in the world they would have to balance it with evil and vice versa and he puts an end to the story.
Daphne questions why the Misery Company is going after them to which Coco tells them that they broke the balance, they caused too much good in the world, especially by trapping her, so the ghouls go after them to fix the balance and tells them that if she were them she would She would keep an eye out for Nefario, but then Nefario appears behind her, Coco realizes and is impressed that Nefario did not need cables to fly, so she wants to talk business with him when the mystery is over since she likes his technique, Nefario growls at them, blowing his stinky breath at them and tells them "I'm here for you!", so Mystery Inc. and Coco run.
Mystery Inc. and Coco manage to hide from Nefario and they think that at least Nefario's friends didn't come with him, but then Daisy, Helga, Craggly and Rudy show up so Fred tells them to split up and each Mystery Inc. member is followed by their Misery Company counterpart, Fred is chased by Nefario while Nefario throws fireballs at him but Fred manages to dodge easily, but then Fred starts to get tired and stops to catch his breath, allowing Nefario to catch up to Fred, Nefario tells him "I'm here for you!", but suddenly, Fred picks up a book and puts it in Nefario's mouth, revealing that he pretended to be tired, Fred continues running and says "I was built for this stuff.", he laughs and declares "I'm gonna live forever!".
Mystery Inc. and Coco meet up and try to come up with a plan, Daphne gets Misery Company's attention by calling them "Ghoul breath", they take them with the Librarian and the ghouls say them "We're here for you!", the Librarian complains that they make a lot of noise and declares that at their age they should behave better, she tells them that they must respect that they are in a library and that they must be quiet, the gang and Coco take the opportunity to escape through the window but Shaggy gets stuck because of his pumpkin costume, the Librarian tells the ghouls that it would be better for them if she doesn't catch them making noise again and they go after the gang, they finally manage to get Shaggy out and escape.
Mystery Inc. complains that they are no closer to solving the mystery, that Nefario already has his own group to go after them and which way Coco is taking them, but Coco reveals that Esteban took photos of the ghouls and upon seeing their outfits she believes that the culprit is his former apprentice, Trevor Glume.
The gang and Coco go to see Trevor, who opened his own boutique: Trevor Glume's Boutique of Doom, after Coco was arrested, upon arrival, Trevor becomes unhappy when he sees Coco and when Shaggy and Scooby eat his candles, but he remains calm and declares that he managed to find his own style, so Coco confronts him and shows him the photos of the ghouls' outfits, accusing him of trying to steal her business while she was in prison but Trevor claims he doesn't know what she's talking about, Coco declares that Trevor conspired to destroy Mystery Inc. but Trevor tearfully claims that he was in the boutique, the gang checks the security cameras and sees that Trevor was in the boutique the whole time, so he has an alibi, Fred jokes that Coco might not get her early release, Coco declares that she has reason to suspect Trevor and that if Trevor had better taste he would have real clients if he had current taste, then Trevor declares who has real clients and who received the biggest order of his life last week which was some of his best Victorian creations which he sent to Coolsville Penitentiary, everyone is surprised to hear that and Mystery Inc. begins to suspect Coco which she doesn't like, the gang asks to check the warrant documents (which are wet because Trevor cried on them) and then they realize that Coco escaped and fled to her factory, the gang repairs the Mystery Machine with the help of Trevor, turns it into the Gloomy Mystery Machine and goes after Coco.
Upon arriving at the factory, Mystey Inc. begins to look for Coco, they separate to search and Shaggy and Scooby see a vending machine so they are going to eat something, then Fred, Daphne and Velma hear voices that sound like theirs and find to Misery Company in the break room playing Go Fish, Daisy, Helga, Craggly and Rudy complain about the others cheating which they all do and criticize each other, then Nefario tells them to shut up and that it's almost time to ambush the gang, Fred, Daphne and Velma think about what to do and the ghouls come out and see them so they run away and the ghouls go after them, Fred, Daphne and Velma try to flee and reach the machines but are caught by the ghouls and put in an airtight baler, they scream for help and Shaggy and Scooby hear them, they see the mannequins and devise a plan, Shaggy and Scooby draw the attention of the ghouls and they chase them, the ghouls see some figures and believe they are Shaggy and Scooby but they discover that they are mannequins with their costumes, Nefario apologizes for the misunderstanding and Shaggy throws them into a crocodile pit and they are devoured and Scooby saves Fred, Daphne and Velma.
Mystery Inc. observes the pit and they think that they would never find out who Misery Company were, but then the crocodiles take the ghouls out of the pit and the gang discovers that they were robots which surprises them, Misery Company say their phrase "We're here for you!" one last time and they shut down forever, Mystery Inc. realize that the robots were controlled by someone and then Coco appears to their surprise, Coco declares that she is the culprit and that she built and programmed the robots to get revenge on them for having trapped her, but the gang feels that despite suspecting Coco from the beginning there is something that feels wrong, then Scooby asks for Esteban, he starts looking for him and discovers that he is in Coco's Office, Coco begs them not to look there but Scooby realizes that there is someone with Esteban and they open the office, they open it and find Esteban tied and gagged in a chair and with someone pointing a bottle of water at him and the person reveals that he is Warden Collins.
Mystery Inc. ties Warden Collins to a chair and they realize that only he could have been able to do everything, Warden Collins explains that he did everything since they were bored for not having interesting mysteries and seeing their desperation he decided to give them the most interesting mystery of their lives, he used the technology that he perfected in prison to create the ghouls and planted clues in Coolsville and by involving Coco in the mystery she would be the perfect scapegoat since she was serving time and he won, in simple terms the whole mystery was a favor and Warden Collins tells the gang that they were never in real danger since he was always able to turn off his robots with a button.
