The Coral Creature is a deep sea creature living in the Great Barrier Reef. Though Mystery Inc. investigated it as a fake monster, the Coral Creature later proved it was real, helping them stop a true criminal, Spencer Johnson.

Physical appearance[]

The Coral Creature is a colossal, motile animal made of orange coral. It had a single head-like region with eyes and a mouth, as well as thin, skeleton-like limbs. It had tubular, columnar structures on its head, and had grey barnacles at various points on its body.

Personality[]

The Coral Creature initially appeared to be a hostile monster, exiting the water and terrorizing beachgoers with its intimidating size. Due to its hostility, Mystery Inc. thought the monster was related to the kidnappings of sandcastle builders on the beach. Mystery Inc. also thought it was simply a human criminal in disguise, as its behaviour was similar to that of other hostile monsters they encountered.

However, in reality, it was a real creature disturbed by human activity in its natural habitat, which confused it into attacking humans on the beach. As such, despite appearing predatory, it had some prey instincts as it often fled when intimidated. The creature later helped Mystery Inc. stop a true criminal, proving its friendliness and willingness to interact with benevolent humans. It also befriended Scooby as it rescued Scooby from a flooding tunnel.

What's New, Scooby-Doo?[]

Season three[]

When Spencer Johnson began an illegal project digging a tunnel under the Great Barrier Reef, the noise from the digging disturbed the Coral Creature from its natural habitat. The creature began exiting the water and attacking sandcastle builders on the beach, which prompted Mystery Inc. to begin investigating it, believing it was a disguised criminal. Because Johnson kidnapped abducted beachgoers and enslaved them to dig the tunnel, Mystery Inc. thought the Coral Creature was connected to the kidnappings. During their investigations, the Coral Creature would attack Mystery Inc. several times, destroying Shaggy and Scooby's sandcastle.

When Mystery Inc. discovered Johnson's tunnel, their actions accidentally caused the tunnel to collapse and begin to flood. The Coral Creature, being swept into the tunnel by water currents, rescued Scooby from the tunnel and safely returned him to the beach. After Mystery Inc. exposed Johnson as the culprit, Scooby thanked the Coral Creature for its help and bid farewell as it returned to the deep sea.

Notes/trivia[]

  • The coral creature was one of the few real monsters of the animated Scooby-Doo franchise, though Velma claimed that it was not a monster, but merely an evolved form of coral. It was also one of the only monsters unaffiliated with any crime, as it was merely disturbed by the villain's plan.
