- This article is about the character from the Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! episode The Curse of Kaniaku. For other uses, see Cook (disambiguation).
According to a legend, the crab demon Kaniaku was born from a cook that failed to appease the Spirit of the Sea.
Physical appearance[]
The cook was depicted as an adult Japanese man with black hair tied in a high bun. He wears a simple robe over a white undershirt, a white apron, and sandals.
Personality[]
As shown in the legend, the cook was a lovestruck man who took a risk to earn the affection of a princess.
History[]
Early life[]
According to the legend, the cook asked the Spirit of the Sea to give him the perfect recipe to make a princess fall in love with him. The Spirit of the Sea entrusted him with the Golden Scroll, but warned him that he had to prepare the dish perfectly or he would be cursed for eternity. The cook began preparing the dish, but bandits broke into his home and stole the golden scroll before the cook could finish it with the last ingredient. As such, the Spirit of the Sea turned him into Kaniaku, a crab demon. The golden scroll was stashed at a disreputable inn but remained lost for centuries, and the recipe on it became known as the Norowareta Reshipi (lit. Cursed Recipe).
Legacy[]
Over seven hundred years after the legend supposedly took place, a kimono tailor, Mr. Kagawa, disguised himself as Kaniaku to attack a businessman, Mr. Uehara. After Mystery Inc. caught Kagawa for his crimes, Fred accidentally found the golden scroll containing the Norowareta Reshipi.
