Premise[]

The Fearless Detective Agency is hired to guard a very rare and valuable comic book, "Slime Boy", at the Comic Book Convention, but soon it is stolen by none other than Slime Boy himself, and the guys must get it back.

Synopsis[]

At Comic Book Convention, Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, and Scrappy-Doo were hired by Mr. Bigsby to guard his very rare comic book, Slime Boy #1. They were given strict instructions by convention manager Mr. Morley to not leave it alone until closing time at midnight and not to let it get stolen. The three agreed to this job but after Scrappy commented that "We'll guard it with our life", Scooby became nervous.

An hour later, Slime Boy emerged from the nearby cardboard illustration of himself. He then carefully removed the large glass case protecting the comic and stole Slime Boy #1. When he was challenged by the guys, he put the glass case over the trio and escaped. Scooby and Shaggy quickly removed it while Scrappy ran after the culprit, leaving them behind.

After catching up with Scrappy, Shaggy unmasked the wrong Slime Boy, which was an elderly woman. Scrappy spotted the right Slime Boy heading for the elevator. Scrappy formulated a plan to get the comic book back and then the three headed for the stairs.

As Slime Boy waited impatiently for the elevator to arrive, Scooby was lowered by Shaggy in a harness. After a scuffle, Shaggy pulled up the harness thinking Scooby had successfully snatched the comic, but it was Slime Boy holding on to the rope. Shaggy then dropped the rope and Slime Boy. The monster got up and then finally opened elevator door, revealing Scooby was captured and tied up. Shaggy lowered a second rope for Scooby to grab, which he did by using his mouth. When Scooby hopped out of the elevator, Shaggy pulled him up while Slime Boy tried to grab him, but the Great Dane was lowered down again and grabbed the comic by using his tail. Scooby was pulled up again with Slime Boy attempting to grab him a second time. Comic saved, Shaggy thought they had evaded Slime Boy, but Scrappy noticed him climbing the wall using suction cups. Shaggy grabbed Scrappy then fled; Scooby broke free from his bonds and ran after them while Slime Boy climbed over the wall and onto the mezzanine floor.

The trio slid down the stair rails and hid inside the Comic Strip Exhibit. Slime Boy searched through a large comic display and found them on the last image. He scrunched it up and stuffed it into a trash can. The comic poked out, which he grabbed, and fled. The trio were stuck in the trash can and hopped in Slime Boy's direction. They found slimy footprints, finally got out of the trash can, and followed them.

While they were walking to the end of the trail, Scrappy spotted a door and suspected Slime Boy could be behind it. Shaggy and Scooby decided to flip a coin to determine who would open it. Shaggy rigged the toss and the dog lost. When he opened the door, Slime Boy fell on to him and the dog beat it up for being captured by the monster and stuffed into a trash can. However, it was only the empty costume. Scooby noticed a button and Shaggy deduced that it belonged to the thief. They decided to disguise themselves as a cowboy and Rocky the Wonderhorse so the culprit wouldn't recognize them.

While searching for the owner's button, they encountered Mr. Morley. Scrappy explained their plan to him. He noticed the button was an exact match to Mr. Morley's buttons and that his jacket was missing a button. Mr. Morley escapes with the comic back to the same mezzanine stairs next to the elevator. The pup chases him while Scooby and Shaggy run outside in case if Mr. Morley tried to escape the building. As Scrappy cornered him, Mr. Morley jumped out of the window. He then landed on a galloping Scooby and Shaggy ran to the police station. Scrappy called the police chief to inform him of the situation. The puppy ran to the police station while Scooby and Shaggy dumped Mr. Morley in the police station. A police officer picked up the comic book and reads it as the trio galloped off into the moonlit night.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • This is one of the very few episodes where the villain is in a costume.
  • Shaggy tricks Scooby once again with a coin, saying "heads I win, tails you lose". This happened previously in the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode Which Witch is Which?.
    • Contrary to that episode, Scooby tries not to fall for it but, in doing so, ultimately does because of his own clumsiness.

Miscellaneous[]

Cultural references[]

  • At the beginning of the episode, one of the cosplayers is wearing a similar outfit to Superman.
  • Another cosplayer is dressed as Jeannie.
  • Two banners behind the cosplayers say Dandy and Beano, titles of two interrelated children's comic magazines of Great Britain.
  • The line, "Who was that horse?" seems to be a reference to the line "Who was that masked man?" about the Lone Ranger, especially since the next line is, "Hi, ho, Scooby-Doo, away," which is what the Lone Ranger says to his horse, Silver.

Animation mistakes and/or technical glitches[]

  • When Slime Boy found Scooby-Doo's, Shaggy's, and Scrappy Doo's hiding large comic panel, it was separate from the middle one by a few inches. When the monster scrunched both panels, they were next to each other with no small distance.
  • After Scrappy-Doo grabbed convention visitor's button, he shifted his position from the podium to the corner.
  • While Scrappy-Doo was explaining to Mr. Morley, the former was around the latter's knee length while not counting the large hat; but in the next shot, he on similar height to the man's waist.

Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities[]

  • In the scene when Scooby-Doo carefully lifted by Shaggy through the neck and left lower leg, the ropes binding Scooby-Doo's legs and near the right shoulder disappeared. When after showing Slime Boy climbing the walls with suction cups, the ropes were back. Although, as Scooby-Doo struggled and successfully broke free from his restraints, the top most ropes moved from diagonal to straight.
  • How did Shaggy and Scrappy-Doo not see Scooby-Doo get beaten up, pulled off the harness, tied up, and shoved into the elevator by Slime Boy?
  • Slime Boy did not have anything to store the ropes he used to restrain Scooby-Doo on his body, nor were there any ropes near him. Even the suction cups he used to climb up the wall. The Slime Boy costume did not have any room to store ropes and suction cups inside of it.
  • There was no ding during the scuffle between Scooby-Doo and Slime Boy.
  • When Slime Boy entered the Comic Exhibit, he walked past the first panel, but when he left for the next shot, he walked past the same panel again without backtracking.
  • When Slime Boy found Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, and Scrappy hiding in a large comic panel, it was separate from the middle one by a few inches. When the monster scrunched both panels, they were next to each other with no gap.
