Chupacabra was the diguise of Charlene.

Physical appearance

It resembles a huge gorilla beast with purple fur, glowing green eyes, an upright posture, and sharp fangs. It has large claws on its hands, that it often used to abduct people. It does not bear resemblance to a real Chupacabra, although that might be because the Americans who made the costume didn't know what it looked like. This wouldn't explain why locals called it El Chupacabra though.

History

Scooby-Doo! and the Monster of Mexico

She used this and the Museum guide disguise to help get the Otero's land for her boyfriend's newest tourist attraction.

It first appears at the plaza, where it nearly captures Alejo's son and his dog, Chiquita, but they are saved by Alejo himself. It later spooks Shaggy Rogers and Scooby-Doo when they were trying to sleep, but it was scared away when more people came.

The gang finally meet it in the forest, where it chases them, and they manage to lose it. It appears last in the graveyard, at the day of the dead, where it was unmasked as the Museum guide, then Charlene.

Notes/trivia

  • In the trailer, Shaggy asked what Chupacabra mean in English, but wasn't revealed in the movie. The word means "goat sucker" (it not only kills sheep and goats, but also chickens).
  • Instead of using a real life reptilian version of the Chupacabra, they made its version like Bigfoot.
  • During the film, most children say it looks like a gorilla, bear, or alien (although in real life it is said that the Chupacabra looks like an alien).
  • It's possible that Mr. Smiley briefly dressed up as the monster to fake kidnap his girlfriend Charlene.
  • The monster's vocal effects are a rare example where nearly all of his noises are actually pre-recorded stock sound effects; in this case, they are mostly vintage samples from Hanna-Barbera's original sound effects library; some of these effects were recorded by Frank Welker some time in the 1970s.
