The Chronobeast was the disguise of Malcolm McDowell.

Physical appearance[]

The Chronobeast was a monster unlike any known animal species. It had a muscular red body a dark ring around its mane. It also had five green eyes, yellow arms and legs, a long, snout-like nose, and four large, black fangs and which radially extended from the lips. It has a set of black horns along the spine as well as a horn on each elbow. In the place of wings, it has eight black tentacles which move freely, and it had bird-like hands and feet with three talons each. It is capable of standing both on two legs and all fours.

Personality[]

The Chronobeast was a hostile monster which attacked its victims by chasing and often letting out a high-pitched screech. It tormented Mystery Inc. throughout the time-space continuum, following them as they travel and attacking them on several occasions.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Teleportation: The Chronobeast was capable of creating wormholes which it could then use to appear and disappear. This was made possible with visual effects.
  • Flight: The Chronobeast was capable of flying; though it did not have wings, it had tentacles in their place. As this is the result of McDowell's elaborate stagecraft as part of the simulation, the Chronobeast was not shown flying outside the workshop where the simulation took place.
  • Decay: The Chronobeast has the unique ability to induce rapid decay in any living matter it touches, including humans and plants. In both of these instances, the target would immediately disintegrate into a pile of black dust. This is the result of visual effects and the targets are simply holographic projections.

Season one[]

Malcolm McDowell unmasked

Malcolm McDowell unmasked.

The Chronobeast was created by actor Malcolm McDowell to supplement his time travel simulation. In conjunction with visual effects, animatronics, and a fake time machine, McDowell used the disguise to create a convincing simulation of time travel to be marketed as an attraction. The Chronobeast was first seen attacking Mystery Inc. on the road, who was forced to evasively swerve off the road and into a ditch. McDowell's intention was to trick Mystery Inc. into believing that the time travel simulation was real, and they would help endorse his project. While Mystery Inc. experienced the simulation and travelled through the simulated continuum (the "Time Vortex"), the Chronobeast periodically appeared and chased them further into the future. He was, however, later captured by Fred's makeshift trap made with bicycle parts and subsequently unmasked. Despite failing to trick Mystery Inc., McDowell received praise from them for his work, and they agreed to endorse his project.
