Camp Comeoniwannascareya is the ninth episode of the third season of What's New, Scooby-Doo?, and the thirty-seventh overall.
Premise[]
Shaggy and Scooby are camp counselors when a ghost story comes to life!
Synopsis[]
While fellow Mystery Inc. members Fred, Daphne, and Velma are solving mysteries somewhere else, Shaggy and Scooby have taken jobs at Shaggy's old summer camp, Camp Kichihaha. Their joy is quickly ruined when, while getting more s'more supplies, they are attacked by a giant monster covered in an acidic moss. When campers under Shaggy's care Jake, Alex, and Ernie chase it off with a hose, another camper, Dennis, claims it was the Toxic Terror, a ghost story monster supposedly brought to life when the camp's builders decided to cover up a toxic dump with a cabin numbered 13, of which Shaggy is now the head counselor of. Subsequent attacks by the Toxic Terror result in the destruction of an electric golf cart and a tanning tower to the fury of new owner Clyde, who shuts down the camp after erroneously blaming Shaggy and Scooby for interfering with his attempts to turn the camp into a spa resort.
While Jake, Alex, and Ernie, who had been trying to find out what was causing the monster attacks, bemoan how their attempts have made things worse, Shaggy and Scooby, the only two experienced monster hunters there, have decided to step up in order to protect the camp. While investigating cabin 13, they confirm that the 'toxic dump' that created it isn't there, confirming that the monster is a typical man in a mask. When the Toxic Terror attacks and destroys cabin 13, the group takes shelter in an old treehouse, where the monster surprisingly retreats.
Realizing the Toxic Terror is only attacking places Clyde had renovated for his resort, Shaggy and Scooby construct a trap to capture the monster. However, Jake, Alex, and Ernie deem the trap too insane and throw a net on the monster, only to discover that the person under the mask was Dennis; when the real Toxic Terror shows up, the trap successfully catches the monster, which is revealed to be Grey, another counselor at the camp. Grey explains that she brought the Toxic Terror to life as a way to stop Clyde from renovating the camp as it would damage the legacy of Camp Kichihaha; Dennis, who had been trying to scare Jake, Alex, and Ernie the whole episode, found out what Grey was up to and requested a costume of his own when it was clear that was the only thing that could. Moved by the noble intention Grey had for becoming the monster, Shaggy points out one flaw in Grey's plan: the true target of her attacks, Clyde, was the only one who hadn't seen the Toxic Terror in action. This prompts the group to join Grey and Dennis in scaring Clyde away from the camp, allowing them to run it in peace.

Notes/Trivia[]
- This is the only What's New, Scooby-Doo? episode not to feature Fred, Daphne, and Velma; Shaggy says they're off solving mysteries elsewhere, making Shaggy and Scooby the only characters to appear in every episode of the series. Coincidentally, the next series, Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!, had Shaggy and Scooby as the main characters, with the former three as semi-recurring guest stars.
- The last episode of a series to only have Scooby and Shaggy was in the A Pup Named Scooby-Doo episode Catcher on the Sly. They were also by themselves in the television special Arabian Nights.
- The episode was supposed to have been included on the Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare DVD, but for unknown reasons, it was not.
- The same thing occurred with the Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog.
- The character model of the supposed first victim of the Toxic Terror was copied from how Shaggy looked in the flashback of A Scooby-Doo Valentine.
- Guest star Tara Lipinski who voiced Grey in this episode later played herself in the Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? episode Scooby on Ice!.
- The character Grey may be named for series regular Grey DeLisle (Daphne Blake), who is absent from this one episode.
- Taylor Lautner's character Dennis dresses up as numerous animals, including a shark. Lautner later played the titular Sharkboy in the movie The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D (2005).
- The ending is extremely unusual for the Scoobyverse. After the culprit is unmasked, Shaggy, Scooby, and their young campers do not turn her in, instead becoming her accomplices in trying to save the camp.
- Also, the trap built to capture the Toxic Terror captures its intended target without some unforeseen detail interfering.
- This is the second episode in season 3 to produced in 2005 according to the end credits.
Miscellaneous[]
- "Zoinks" count: 3.
Adaptations[]
- In 2012, Scholastic published Scooby-Doo! Camp Fear, with comic-book style panels.
Animation mistakes and/or technical glitches[]
- TBA
Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities[]
- Despite Fred not being in the episode, when the opening credits of the episode credit Frank and Casey, Fred is still listed under Frank's name.
- It's never explained what the diving suit Ernie, Alex and Jake found was used for. It could be assumed Grey used it to not be harmed from the toxic moss her costume was covered with, but it's never explained.
