The birdwatchers were a group of unnamed men who robbed the visitors of the hot air balloon race and wanted to find buried treasure.

Scooby-Doo (DC Comics)[]
Two of the five found Shaggy and Scooby outside eating by their van, they questioned why they asked were in front of their van as they needed to leave right away. Fred intervenes and asked what's the hold up, and one of them makes an excuse stating that they were only there to birdwatch and not go see the race, the bird being the famous swallows, and drove off. Despite the fact that they were two months late, since the swallows returned on the nineteenth of March.
Birdwatchers unmasked.
They were later revealed to be doing some treasure hunting, by disguising themselves as Skeleton pirates and using their own hot air balloon ship to attack the air balloon race.

- There were six birdwatchers during their first encounter, but weirdly, there were five that dressed as the Skeleton pirates.
