Be Cold, Scooby-Doo! is the nineteenth episode of season 1 of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!
Premise[]
The gang goes to a ski resort where Shaggy is having his first experience with snow, but there is also a snow monster terrorizing the tourists.
Synopsis[]
At a ski lodge at night, a couple named Eric and Katie are building two snowmen. Katie notices that they have nothing for the faces, but Eric goes out to get some while Katie coincidentally gets some too. Eric comes back worn from getting his face decorations while Katie has just finished her snowman. Upset, Eric then wanders into the forest and runs into a scary-looking snowman. He tries to take its nose but the Snowman comes to life and grabs him by the arm.
The gang is driving toward the lodge and brings Shaggy out blindfolded. They surprise Shaggy by showing him snow since Shaggy hasn't seen snow before. As Shaggy enjoys the snow, Fred compliments Daphne for Shaggy's surprise. Daphne responds by saying his surprise is coming when he least expects it, but Fred made it clear that his danger radar allows him to anticipate any surprise she has in store for him.
A snowboarder arrives and leaves after saying strange words to the gang. Daphne recognizes the snowboarder as Heidi Ho Swift, the national snowboarding champion, and Velma says that the words she was speaking were the snowboarder's own language which she can translate. Velma says that Heidi Ho told them to leave before the Snow Monster gets them. Fred claims that they have walked into a mystery but Shaggy isn't interested, claiming that the mystery he wants to solve is how much frozen fun they can have. So Shaggy and Scooby leave as an inverted dog sled.
Fred states that it should be fun solving their first snow mystery and slips, landing right on top of Daphne and Velma. A man on a snowmobile arrives and warns the gang to be careful. Fred thinks he's referring about the Snow Monster but the man is talking about the ice on the ground. The man introduces himself as Duncan O'Dell who is the owner of the Sunnyside Lodge. When Daphne asks Duncan what Heidi Ho was talking about when she mentioned the Snow Monster, Duncan dismisses it as just some urban legend getting into people's heads. When Fred offers their assistance to solve the mystery, Duncan thanks them but claims that it's all a bunch of nonsense and that they should just enjoy themselves at the lodge.
Meanwhile, Shaggy and Scooby are sledding down a slope with other snow skiers. After eating snow-based fast food Shaggy checks his long list of fun things to do in the snow. Suddenly they run into the Snow Monster who chases them down the hill and over a ravine. Then they slide down into the ravine and land on a different slope. Meanwhile, Fred, Daphne, and Velma try out the ski slope because the Snow Monster has been reported to be seen there. Velma is hesitant to go down the slope and has trouble going down. Fred and Daphne go down the slope and Daphne tries to hit Fred with a snowball but Fred stops here with his danger radar. Velma catches up and wonders what's going on. Fred reveals that he hit Daphne with a snowball a few years ago when she didn't expect it so she's been planning her revenge ever since, but mystery-solving has given Fred a danger radar which makes any surprise attack impossible. Heidi Ho then boards down past them and speaks more of her snowboarding language, which Velma translates as Heidi Ho telling them to get out of the way and calling them amateurs. Shaggy and Scooby then arrive claiming they saw the Snow Monster and that they should leave now, but Velma says that skiing's not bad but then slips down a hill. After getting up she decides to fight back but changes her mind when the Snow Monster arrives.
Daphne suggests they go down the double black diamond slope but Velma refuses until Fred suggests they stand their ground and fight. They go down the slope and split up to increase their chances, Shaggy and Scooby decide to go into the forest thinking that the Snow Monster won't follow them there. However, it does and Shaggy and Scooby hide behind a tree. The Snow Monster is about to get them when Shaggy comes out and sings a song. Shaggy talks Scooby into it and they pretend to be singers claiming that the Snow Monster is the hero who will save their land from an evil witch. They send the Snow Monster away on a magic quest until it realizes it has been tricked and roars in anger.
Meanwhile, Fred, Daphne, and Velma manage to lose the Snow Monster and meet up with Shaggy and Scooby. They then find a weather research station where they meet a crazy lonely research scientist named Dr. Kennith Mason. He offers the gang some food and reveals that he's been at the research station for a week and a half. The gang tells him about the Snow Monster which he knows because he claims he created it. Dr. Mason explains that he was assigned here to study local weather patterns but its taken so long because the skiers keep interfering with his monitoring equipment. To stave off the soul-crushing loneliness he built a snowman as a friend named Mr. Roundy to talk to but then it mysteriously disappeared. But then he something strange had happened, the security cameras captured an unsettling image of the Snow Monster. Velma then reads a book about local folklore speaking of an ancient mountain spirit that wards off trespassers by occupying a variety of different forms like for instance Mr. Roundy. Fred asks Dr. Mason if they could search for clues which he agrees. Fred then finds a letter for Dr. Mason denying him a transfer from the station, it says that the station was meant to be torn down when he was sent there. Fred suggests following the Snow Monster's tracks back to the lodge but feels sad about leaving Dr. Mason behind, but Velma assures Fred that he'll be alright.
Back at the lodge, Duncan says that the weather station has caused him enough trouble - it is sitting in the middle of their new double black diamond slope so they can't finish it. Daphne then asks if all the medals in the room are his, to which Duncan answers "yes". He says that the resort used to be a professional training center for top-notch athletes like Heidi Ho Swift. Duncan used to practice here all the time, and when he retired from competition he bought the lodge so everybody could enjoy the world-class skiing. Velma states the business has been good since Duncan has been buying up the surrounding land. Duncan agrees but the last thing he wants is a snow monster scaring all the tourists away. Velma assures Duncan that they will solve the mystery and Fred suggests that all they need is a birds-eye view of the situation. The gangs rides the ski lift up the mountain, where Velma notices strange tracks left by the Snow monster where it first attacked Shaggy and Scooby. The Snow Monster then appears at the end of the ski lift.
The gang drops from their lift chairs and are chased by the Snow Monster. They manage to lose him and regroup back at the lodge, where Shaggy laments he is disappointed by his first snow experience. Then Daphne accidentally puts out the fire and Velma complains that water has caused her nothing but trouble. Daphne then blames Fred for wasting time with his danger radar but Fred states that no rational person would anticipate a snowman coming to life and attacking everyone. Both Fred and Velma then find the answer to the mystery and plan to trap the Snow Monster. Fred stands at the top of the ski slope, acting as the bait, when the Snow Monster arrives and chases him. Fred lures him to the net Shaggy and Scooby drop down but they are pulled along with the Snow Monster. Daphne then throws snowballs at the Snow Monster which knocks it's hat off, then she throws her last snowball at Fred which causes him to slip and roll down the slope. This forms a large snowball that gets Shaggy, Scooby, and the Snow Monster trapped in it. They all land in front of the lodge with Daphne mocking Fred's danger radar.
With the Snow Monster tied up and the police arriving, Fred unmasks the Snow Monster who is revealed to be Heidi Ho Swift. Duncan and Dr. Mason arrive wondering what's going on, and Velma explains everything. Heidi didn't want Sunnyside Lodge to become a major international tourist destination, so she decided to use the local ancient legend to scare the tourists away so she could have it all to her self. She knew the only obstacle to finishing the double black diamond slope was the weather station Dr. Mason was posted at. When Heidi saw how lonely and miserable Dr. Mason was, she decided to drive him over the edge and scare him away using the Snowman. Heidi is obviously a world-class snowboarder which is how the Snow Monster was able to move so well and it also accounts for the strange track patterns in the snow, which were made by her snowboard. Heidi is then taken away after saying meddling kids in snowboarder language. Fred is happy that they solved their first ever snow mystery and Shaggy is happy about spending some time on the snow that he's really starting to like it. Then the gang slips on the ice and falls down.
