Asmodeus was the disguise of Mortifer Quinch acting as Vincent Van Ghoul's ancestor, Asamad Van Ghoul, the thirteenth and final ghost to escape the Chest of Demons.

Physical appearance[]

He was a tall, dark red-purple humanoid with with a pair of wings on its back. His head resembles the one on the Chest of Demons, with long and curved black horns, a fanged mouth and a pair of glowing yellow eyes. He wore a Roman-like outfit, with gray robes, tattered dark gray pants, gray armbands, a black cape and an A-shape belt buckle.

Personality[]

Asmodeus plans to get his hands on the Chest of Demons and release the other ghosts inside, and will do anything and everything in his demonic power to do so. He appears to be extremely aggressive and a little bit arrogant, and also stuck in his current knowledge ''there is no 14th ghost'', whether that's true or false. He also thinks that he may succeed in everything and won't stop at any cost.

Trivia[]

  • The etymology of the name Asmodeus is not beyond any doubt but it is most plausibly derived from the Avestan words aēšma-and daēuua or their Middle Persian (Pahlavi) compound cognate xēšm-dēw, both meaning 'demon of wrath'.
  • He seems to be based on an actual biblical demon of Ars Goetia of the same name, representing the sin of lust.
  • Whether there is a real Asmodeus, as Vincent Van Ghoul claimed, is uncertain. He certainly seemed to genuinely believe that one of his ancestors had become Asmodeus.
    • There were possibly two of them, one real, the true 13th ghost, and the other faked by Mortifer Quinch. It is not clear if a real Asmodeus had met with Vincent Van Ghoul and Quinch when they supposedly locked him in the Chest.
  • Asmodeus resembled the main representative of the ghosts of the Chest of Demons when they were released in the episode To All the Ghouls I've Loved Before as well as the show's opening.
