All Fear the Freak is the twenty-sixth and final episode of the first season of Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.
Premise[]
Mystery Incorporated takes matters into their own hands, and finds the missing pieces of the Planispheric Disk, discovering what led to the break up of their predecessors.
Synopsis[]
In a flashback set twenty years prior, the original Mystery Incorporated searches through the caves under Crystal Cove using the map they found. They find the chest and open it, only to discover that there is only one piece of the disk. They pick up the piece and trigger a booby trap which they escape, with Reeves dropping her locket.
In the present, Velma emails the rest of the gang, saying, "Midnight." Her mother comes in, telling her to get to bed. Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby also receive the message and prepare to leave.
Fred is welding something when he receives the email. Going downstairs, Fred finds his father leaning sadly on the fireplace mantel, looking at a picture of his wife and Fred's mother. He tells his father, Mayor Jones, that he is going to bed, Mayor Jones angrily scolds Fred for startling him and he could being armed, and Fred apologizes and says that he only came downstairs to say goodnight. Feeling bad for yelling at him, Mayor Jones apologises to Fred and tells him that even though he disapproves of his mystery obsession, he still loves him. He leaves, and Fred steals the key to City Hall and brings a picture of his mother.
The gang meets up in front of City Hall, ready to search. They are still mad at Velma for not telling them about Angel and that she chose Cassidy Williams over her friends. Shaggy asks why, but Velma points out that Shaggy chose his dog over her. They enter Mayor Jones' office and search the place. Shaggy bumps into a cabinet, which opens a drawer containing a scroll. Inside the scroll is a drawing of the Planispheric Disk and a paper copy of one of the pieces. They are about to leave when they encounter the Freak of Crystal Cove. Terrified, they flee City Hall and come face-to-face with Sheriff Bronson Stone.
The gang is taken into one of the cells in the police station in front of each member's parents. The parents demand the Sheriff let the kids go, but he refuses, calling them "vicious repeat felons." Mayor Jones also tells the sheriff to let them go because he is not pressing charges. After Stone released the gang from their cell, Fred tried to apologize to his father, but Mayor Jones will not hear of it. Daphne's father says he is forbidding her from seeing Fred again but is shocked to hear that Daphne and Fred secretly got engaged, an announcement which also surprises the rest of the gang. Daphne's mother blames the mayor for all of their problems and when Nan grabs her by leaving, Fred and Daphne try to grab each other but Jones.Sr grabs Fred too when Nan stormed off much to the gang and their parent’s shock. As the gang and their families leave, Fred quietly tells Shaggy and Scooby to guard the piece and Velma to keep the scroll safe. As the members of the gang are each taken home, Angel witnesses this and calls up Ed Machine.
Once they are home, Shaggy and Scooby are sent to bed, and their parents consider sending Shaggy to military school. Once Shaggy's parents left their room, Shaggy and Scooby checked their fridge hidden under their bed for their stocked up emergenecy food supply. It is soon revealed that the pieces of the Planispheric Disk are hidden inside the pizza box in their fridge.
Unfortunately, the Freak attacks them again, causing Shaggy and Scooby to jump out the window while their parents were painting still-life pieces. Ed Machine appears, telling them to get in the car. They and everyone else in the gang are driven to K-Ghoul. Angel tries to declare a truce with the gang, but they end up locking her in her studio and leaving. She tries to call Ed, but he has left his phone in the car and is confronted by Professor Pericles, resulting in his death.
The gang returns to the Old Spanish Church, which Fred declares is where the mystery began and where it ends. Velma and Shaggy question him and Daphne why they never told them they were engaged, however Daphne reminds Velma that she and Shaggy kept their relationship secret from her and Fred. They set down the piece, and Velma figures out the location of the supposed treasure. Apparently, by shining light through the paper copy and the piece they had, coordinates to the treasure are revealed. Scooby plugs the coordinates into the GPS, leading them to an empty treasure chest.
Unfortunately they do not realize Professor Pericles has been tracking then. He is about to steal the piece from them, but they see the Freak again. The Freak knocks out Pericles, takes the piece from Velma's hands, and runs away. Fred kicks the treasure chest, triggering a booby trap that floods the place. The Freak and the gang get washed away.
The Freak tries to flee the area by climbing the cliff. However, Fred climbs up after him. Just then, part of the cliff collapses. Fred is about to fall to his death, but the Freak rescues him. Fred chases and tackles the Freak, pinning him down.
Sheriff Stone, as well as Cassidy and the gang's parents, arrive at the scene. With a heavy heart, Fred announces that the Freak of Crystal Cove is none other than his father. He figured out something was amiss when he found out the picture of his mother was a cut-out from a magazine, and the date on the back was the day he was born, or what his father told him was the day he was born. Fred then angrily asks his father why he did all of this.
The mayor explains that years ago, he came to Crystal Cove in search of the cursed treasure, accepting a job at Darrow University's History Department, which gave him access to the town's archives. He learned about the conquistadors via the town archives and disguised himself as the Freak to search for the Planispheric Disk, with no luck. One day, the original Mystery Inc came to him for advice about their discovery of a piece of the Disk. He conspired with Professor Pericles to take the piece from the original Mystery Inc. in exchange for a partnership to find the treasure. By dressing up as the Freak and fabricating documents implicating their parents of various crimes, he was able to get the piece and drive the old gang out of town. He framed Professor Pericles, whom he now saw as a loose end, for the old gang's disappearance, and the parrot was sentenced to spend the rest of his life at the asylum. The mayor then reveals that Judy Reeves is Fred's mother and thus Brad Chiles is Fred's real father (much to everyone’s surprise). After Fred was born, the mayor took him from Brad and Judy in order to keep them away from Crystal Cove. Fred is furious about this and while Fred Sr. tries to assure Fred he still cares about him, Fred believes that he was just using him, leaving Sheriff Stone to arrest him.
Fred goes to the cliff where Daphne comforts him. He is very upset that everything about his life is a lie, and his real parents are out there and he did not know about them. Daphne says she will help him find his true family, but saddened, Fred calls off his engagement to Daphne and announces he is leaving Crystal Cove to search of his real parents. Before he is out of sight, Fred declares that Mystery Incorporated is dead. Shaggy and Scooby tries to stop Fred, but his parents were in their way telling him that after much thought, they are sending Shaggy to military school and Scooby to live on a farm. Velma tries to comfort a broken-hearted Daphne, but she blames Velma for not telling them everything and leaves to her mom and dad with Velma’s parents taking her home. Scooby sadly goes into the car where Professor Pericles holds the two pieces, gloats and leaves. Before Pericles is out of sight, Scooby vows that he will get the gang back together.

Cast[]
Continuity[]
- The previous episode set up the original Mystery Inc.'s investigation at the Old Spanish Church.
- How Judy Reeves lost her locket is shown, which Daphne found in the first episode.
- Velma's blog was first seen in The Siren's Song.
- Fred proposed in Dead Justice.
- Mayor Jones has been hinted to know more than he let on ever since the first episode, and Professor Pericles warned Fred Jr. about him in Howl of the Fright Hound and A Haunting in Crystal Cove.
Notes/trivia[]
- After planning how to make the perfect engagement announcement and being critical of how her sisters handled theirs, Daphne ironically does it at the worst possible time, when her parents are getting her out of jail for breaking into the Mayor's office along with Fred and the gang.
- The scene where Professor Pericles was in Ed Machine's house foreshadowed Come Undone. His shadow was much larger than him, similar to how he was when the Evil Entity took control of his body, before changing its appearance.
- Also, when Pericles betrayed Aphrodite to be a step closer to the Evil Entity, he was interrupted a second time by the Freak of Crystal Cove.
- This episode reveals that Scooby's full name in this incarnation is "Scooby-Dooby-Doo".
- Frank Welker is credited as Barty Blake.
- Caption error: There is a period (.) instead of an exclamation point (!) when Scooby vows to bring the gang back together and stop Pericles.
- The Italian name for this episode, 'Fine Della Storia', translates as 'End of The Story', even though this is only the end of the season, with much of the key plot/story still to come in Season Two.
- This is the first time that a season finale leaves a cliffhanger for the next season.
Animation mistakes and/or technical glitches[]
- TBA
Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities[]
- The piece of the Planispheric Disk that Velma takes into the caves has the shape of the piece from the Jones mansion that should be in the hands of Professor Pericles (since A Haunting in Crystal Cove), not the piece from the Darrow Mansion the gang had.
- When Fred takes out the picture of his "mother", there is a crinkle of crisp paper. He and everything in his pockets was recently immersed in water.
- Angel's headphones go on and off in the last scene from shot to shot.
- Nolan North is erroneously credited as "TV Reporter" which seems to have been mistakenly carried over from the previous episode's credits.
