Ali is a tour guide in Egypt.
Physical appearance[]
Ali is a bearded Egyptian man with black hair and a blue turban. He wears a purple robe over a green shirt.
Personality[]
Ali was a man dedicated to Egyptian culture, teaching tourists about the country's history, but also going to extreme measures to protect tomb artifacts. In response to seeing a robbed tomb, he called on the spirit of Tutankhamun to curse those that robbed the tomb. He saw archaeologists such as Harriet Carter excavating the tomb as mere tomb robbers, taking the treasures for personal gain. While he said he did not intend to harm anybody, he nevertheless turned to crime, terrorizing the archaeologists and stealing their equipment.
When he was caught, however, he learned Carter was trying to research the tombs to further understand and appreciate ancient Egypt. Carter said Ali was more deserving of Tutankhamun's curse than she was, as in his extreme acts, he sabotaged a legitimate effort to learn about Egyptian history.
History[]
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? (DC Comics)[]
Ali acted as Mystery Inc.'s tour guide, guiding them through Egypt and bringing them to the Giza Plateau, where Dr. Harriet Carter had discovered the tomb of Pharaoh Tootincandy. However, Ali assumed Carter was trying to rob the tomb, so he and his accomplices attempted to sabotage the excavation. They staged the tomb's collapse, then used torches and paper masks to pose as tomb spirits, creating a diversion while they ransacked the archaeologists' camp and stole their equipment. They also kidnapped Shaggy and Scooby, keeping them hostage in their tent.
Shaggy and Scooby freed themselves when they smelled food coming from the tent of a Bedouin tribe, where Fred, Daphne, and Velma were having a feast. Reuniting with Mystery Inc., they followed Shaggy and Scooby back to where they came from, where they caught Ali conspiring with his accomplices. Carter told Ali he misunderstood their motives, explaining the excavation was a legitimate effort to research Egyptian history. Ali was handed to authorities, and the excavation resumed the next day.
