  • This is the second episode in the series where the guest star is actually the villain. The first was The Cursed Cabinet of Professor Madds Markson!
  • The episode is similar to the Scooby Doo Show episode Creepy Cruise. Both episodes involve a time machine that supposedly summons a futuristic monster and are later revealed to be schemes set up by the inventor to gain money.


Cultural references

  • When talking about his upbringing in Liverpool, McDowell uses the phrase 'You'll Never Walk Alone', taken from a Gerry and the Pacemakers cover of a song by the same name. It is an anthem synonymous with Liverpool Football Club, who McDowell supports.
  • When arriving in 3535 and spotting the giant banana, Scooby suggests that he and Shaggy 'snack to the future', a play-on-words of the famous 1985 film Back to the Future.

  • The first date that the gang and Malcolm travel to is shown as 'Friday 26 October 3535', when in actuality, that day will be a Saturday.
