A Moveable Mystery! is the fifth episode of season 2 of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, and the thirty-first overall.

Premise[]

While in Paris during Fashion Week, the gang meet up with Velma's old classmate in Criminal Psychology classes, supermodel Gigi Hadid. They are on the case of a gargoyle that is attacking Hadid's fashion show!

Synopsis []

Fashion designer Cache Blanc prepares for a fashion show with model Gigi Hadid and various other staff members. However, Hadid is attacked by a large gargoyle who breaks in through the skylight. Mystery Inc., informed of numerous similar attacks, prepares a trap for the monster in a cathedral belfry. However, when the gargoyle appears, the trap fails as it instead captures Mystery Inc. Later, they encounter Gigi Hadid, Velma's old classmate, in the streets, and they decide to collaborate with her to capture the monster.

Later, while Hadid poses in a photoshoot at the Louvre, Mystery Inc. speaks with the workers at the scene to find suspects. Velma meets a model who is dissatisfied with the dress she wanted being worn by Hadid, Daphne meets a stylist who wants to be the lead designer instead of Blanc, and Fred meets an intern who wants her contract to be terminated early, dissatisfied with her work. Lastly, Shaggy and Scooby prepares a banquet, but is met by an aggressive bodyguard, Big Pete. After Big Pete leaves, they encounter the gargoyle, who chases them and the other members of Mystery Inc.

After escaping the monster, Mystery Inc. and Hadid follow its footprints to a hidden passageway. Accessing the passageway by pulling a candelabrum, the group descends into the Paris catacombs. There, they find paintings from the Louvre, as well as oil paints mixed with coffee grounds. As Velma verifies that the paintings are original, she deduces that the paintings currently in the museum are forgeries. They encounter the gargoyle once again, chasing them to the metro station.

Running onto train tracks that are out of commission, they escape the monster again with another passageway leading them to the catacombs. Returning to the Louvre, they confirm that the paintings on display are forgeries, and begin planning a trap for the monster during the fashion show. However, as they learn from Cache Blanc that the models have all quit due to the gargoyle attacks, Mystery Inc. decides to pose as the models.

During the fashion show, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby each walk on the runway with an eccentric costumes: Fred with a peacock, Daphne as a Christmas tree, Velma as a soup can, Shaggy as a teapot and Scooby as a wedding bride. After luring the monster into appearing, Mystery Inc. incapacitates and captures the monster with an element from each of their outfits, most notably Velma capturing the gargoyle in her soup can costume.

The gargoyle turned out to be Cache Blanc. Blanc, despite being an established fashion designer, wanted to change his career and become an artist. So, he disguised himself as a gargoyle to place his forgeries in the Louvre, taking advantage of the chaos to replace the paintings unnoticed. Velma identified the gargoyle's footprints as those made by Blanc's custom-designed shoes, and the coffee-grain oil paints were used to make realistic forgeries. After Blanc is handed over to authorities, Shaggy meets Big Pete, who revealed he snuck away from the event to eat croissants from a nearby cafe. Meanwhile, Scooby, having gained social media attention for his fashion show outfit, decides to perform a photoshoot with Hadid's help.

Notes/trivia[]

  • Velma announces the celebrity guest.
  • The What's New, Scooby-Doo? episode Ready to Scare also involved a plot with a gargoyle attacking a fashion show being presented in Paris.
  • At various times in the episode, when her name is mentioned, there is a musical sting announcing "Gigi Hadid". The same is done at the episode close for Scooby-Doo as he models a wedding dress.
  • Velma's "dress" at the fashion show is a tin can, colored in a pattern reminiscent of Andy Warhol's Campbell's soup can paintings.

Miscellaneous[]

  • Disguises: Shaggy, Scooby-Doo and Gigi Hadid as waiters.
  • Traps: A failed trap where the gargoyle would be trapped in a cathedral bell; a trap during the fashion show in which each member of Mystery Inc. captured the monster using an element of their outfit.
  • Clues: Footprints, paintings in the catacombs, their forgeries in the Louvre, and oil paints mixed with coffee grounds.

Animation mistakes and/or technical glitches[]

  • None known.

Cultural references[]

  • The cathedral used to set the initial trap for the gargoyle, while unnamed, bears a striking resemblance to Notre-Dame, a real-world cathedral in Paris.
  • Three of the paintings in the catacombs are based on characters from past investigations. Daphne states that the paintings are from the Louvre's Renaissance collection, but this could not be possible as none of these characters lived during that time period.
    • One of the paintings is of Bayard B. Beauregard and Lenora Wainsly from The Wedding Witch of Wainsly Hall!. However, these characters lived during the late nineteenth century.
    • One of the paintings is a portrait of Wainsly herself. Similar to the first painting, it could not have dated from the Renaissance.
    • One of the paintings is of Pazzo the Clown from Quit Clowning!. This could not have dated from the Renaissance as Pazzo the Clown is alive in the present day.
  • Another one of the paintings, seen in the final flashback, resembles the self-portraits of Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh.

Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities[]

  • Velma's soup can costume changes forms. When initially worn by Velma, the can had no opening in the top and had holes for her head and arms. However, when used to capture the gargoyle, the can has an opening in the top and no head or arm holes.
  • The characters pronounce the lead designer's name as Cache Blanc, but during the fashion show, text on the wall spells his name as "Cache Blanche."
