A Fashion Nightmare! is the seventh episode of season 2 of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, and the thirty-third overall.
Premise[]
Mystery Inc. is called to the Dergfall Boldman Department Store to solve the mystery of an Elevator Operator Ghost, who is terrorizing its customers. While there they meet Tim Gunn, but which of our heroes will Gunn find lacking in the fashion stakes?
Synopsis[]
Lilian Gunderson, a customer at the Dergfall Boldman Department Store, angrily speaks with a store employee, Marla. However, while she is leaving, is attacked by a ghost in the elevator. The store owner, Mr. Monday, hearing of the incident, apologizes to Gunderson for the incident before hiring Mystery Inc. to investigate the crime. They call the elevator, where the ghost was seen, but meet fashion icon Tim Gunn. They decide to collaborate to investigate the monster, but Gunn begins judging Mystery Inc.'s clothing choices; while he praises most of the members, he criticizes Shaggy's outfit and refers to it as "hideous."
After splitting into two groups to investigate the monster, Shaggy, Scooby and Gunn go to the basement in search of the cafeteria. There, they find the cafeteria closed and its grumpy chef who dislikes her job. Further investigating the basement, they find a similarly-disgruntled janitor, Mr. Wilkins. However, as soon as Wilkins exits, the ghost appears and attacks them. After meeting with Mystery Inc. and running from the ghost into the elevator, Shaggy presses random buttons and the elevator ascends.
They arrive on the building's thirteenth floor, though the floor was legendary and believed not to exist. There, they find a recently-occupied designer studio, littered with exquisite fashion designs. They also find a sketchbook of the legendary-yet-elusive fashion designer Miquel Montreal. Gunn deduces that the culprit is attempted to copy designs from Montreal's sketchbook and pass them off as their own. They keep the sketchbook, before they could investigate further, the ghost arrives in the elevator and attacks them.
The ghost chases Mystery Inc. through the store's window displays and corners them. Shaggy decides to give the ghost a book resembling Montreal's sketchbook. The ghost, believing it to be the sketchbook, takes the book and leaves them, only to find out later that he was not given Montreal's sketchbook. Meanwhile, Mystery Inc. prepares their trap to capture the ghost.
Shaggy and Scooby pose as elevator operators who invite the ghost into the elevator, holding the sketchbook. The elevator ascends and stops at each floor, with a member of Mystery Inc. on each floor launching items at the ghost. On the fifth floor, a tire is launched at the ghost, trapping it, and on the sixth floor, the ghost is struck by a pot, rendering him unconscious.
The ghost turned out to be Marla. Marla found the department store's secret thirteenth floor and, with it, Montreal's designs. Marla wanted to publish the designs as her own and make her own fashion line, so she disguised herself as the ghost to scare people in the elevator in order to prevent them from accidentally finding the thirteenth floor for themselves. After Marla is handed over to authorities, Gunn realizes that Shaggy's outfit is not as hideous as he once believed; it is practical for Shaggy as it helps him run faster.
